The reason me and my parents invested in downtown Manchester is quite accidental. The family immigrated from Taiwan in 1992 for a better future, that is why the company is named Formosa Co., LLC - Portuguese name for Taiwan meaning beautiful. In 1992, the housing bubble just busted, many homes were being foreclosed and the economy was in a recession. Ming and Li could not find jobs even at a Subway restaurant, so Li used her early retirement savings to purchase a rental building. Because of the market crash, all her family and friends advised against it. In 1993 the price each unit dropped to only about $10,000. An unit appreciated to about $100,000 at the height of the 2007 real estate bubble, and in 2011 the price dropped back to about $30,000 per unit. In 2005 - 2011, they own and operated Days Inn in Campton, NH. In 2017, the company started to invest into commercial retail and office rental property. The investment philosophy is to buy residential rental property and hold, and after enough loan is paid off, take money out to invest in more buildings. Hsiu has been involved in the business since 2003. He was a Realtor from 2004-2005, but it is a very competitive job so he has a lot of respect for Realtors. He served in Americorp for 1 year as a 7th grade science teacher, so he has a lot of respect for teachers too. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 2002 with Molecular Biology and Communication Studies. He has a MBA from Plymouth State University in 2012.
